Yes you can use with square stand. You do not need to connect it to the square stand to work, just place key in and turn and the drawer will pop open.
To connect your Square Terminal via an Ethernet cable, you'll need to purchase a Hub. Once you have Hub for Square Terminal, you can connect your Ethernet cable to your Square Terminal.
Or, you can use Square in Offline Mode. The Register app says, "Accept swiped card payment when your internet service is temorparily unavailable." To turn on Offline Mode in the app, touch the menu bar in the upper left screen. Choose Settings and there you will find the option to turn on Offline Mode.
Square doesn't give information about total battery capacity but says that it's designed for all-day use. The reader also goes to sleep after 2 hours of inactivity to help preserve the battery. However, as with just about any electronic device, your mileage may vary.
